When a soldier meets a temptress, someone gets burned.
She may be the most famous seductress in all of fiction. Carmen, a wild and beautiful gypsy in 19th century Spain, ensnares most men in her fiery grasp. Her newest conquest is the soldier Don Jose. Tormented by passion, he abandons duty and honor to win Carmen’s love. When a brash bullfighter catches her eye, Don Jose’s jealousy flares, threatening to burn out of control. Unafraid of fate, Carmen may follow her fickle heart wherever it leads – even if it leads to death.
This season marks the debut of a new production of Carmen, highlighted by a daring new concept in staging. Acclaimed tenor Fernando de la Mora brings passion and conviction to the role of Jose and Beth Clayton sings the title role in one of the world’s most beloved operas. Sung in French with English supertitles.
