Is she one girl too many for a sultan & his harem?
A Moorish palace. Harem girls. A lovesick sultan. With its exotic setting and comic characters, The Abduction from the Seraglio is a tale of stolen love as only Mozart could write it. When a young man’s true love is kidnapped by pirates and sold to the Pasha Selim, he resolves to abduct her back. After a botched escape, the lovers are brought to the palace, where a deadly secret is revealed. Whether the Pasha chooses vengeance or mercy will determine the young lovers’ fate, and their chance to be reunited.
Sumptuous sets and evocative costumes bring this opera - never before staged in Arizona – to riotous, rollicking life. The Abduction from the Seraglio pairs some of Mozart’s most thrilling and difficult arias with a lighthearted libretto. Sung in German with English supertitles
